Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you:

  • Have access to cPanel

  • Are logged into cPanel

  • Know which file or folder you want to name

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

If your hosting service supports cPanel, you can log in directly from the dashboard in the client area.

This is how you do it:

  • Find your hosting service under the list of active products/services

Step 2: Open File Processing

Go to Files section and click on File Manager

Step 3: Find the file or folder

Navigate to the location where the file or folder is located.

(In this case, we give a new name to the folder "folder_example")

Step 4: Rename

  1. Select on the file or folder

  2. Click on Rename in the toolbar

3. Enter the new name

4. Click on Rename file

💡 Tip: You can also click directly on the file name and type a new name.

The folder or file now gets the new name, which is reflected in the file overview:

Make sure that:

  • Links and references to the file are updated
