The move function allows you to organize your files and change the folder structure on the website.
When you have finished this guide, you will know how to move files and folders in cPanel.
Important information
⚠️ If you move files used by the website, any links and references must be updated.
Prerequisites
Before you start, make sure you:
Have access to cPanel
Are logged into cPanel
Step 1: Log in to cPanel
If your hosting service supports direct login to cPanel, you can log in via the client area.
This is how you do it:
Find your hosting service under active services
Click on Log in on cPanel
You are now automatically logged into cPanel
Step 2: Open File Manager
Go to Files section and click on File Manager
Step 3: Select the file or folder
Navigate to the file or folder you want to move.
In this example, we will move the file file1.png to the folder folder_example.
Step 4: Move the item
Select the file or folder
Click on Move
3. Set the new location
4. Click on Move Files
The file has now been moved to folder_example :
Alternatively, you can drag the file directly to the desired folder in the file overview by clicking and dragging the file into the folder.
Troubleshooting
The file does not appear after moving
Make sure that:
The file was moved to the correct folder
No typos were made in the target location
