How to delete and restore files in cPanel

Use File Manager in cPanel to delete files and folders, as well as recover them from the trash bin if necessary.

Overview

When you delete files in File Manager, they are normally moved to the Trash Bin instead of being permanently deleted.

This allows you to recover files that have been deleted by accident.

Important information

⚠️ Files that are deleted from the trash bin cannot normally be recovered.

We therefore recommend checking the content carefully before emptying the trash.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you:

  • Have access to cPanel

  • Are logged into cPanel

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

If your hosting service supports direct login to cPanel, you can log in via the client area.

This is how you do it:

  • Find your hosting service under active products/services

  • Click on Log in on cPanel

  • You are now automatically logged into cPanel

Step 2: Open File Manager

Troubleshooting

I can't find the deleted file

Make sure that:

  • The file is actually in the trash bin

  • The trash bin is not already emptied

The file cannot be restored

If the file is permanently deleted, it must be recovered from a backup if such is available.
