Registration and transfer of .no domains

General information about .no domains, who can register them, and how the transfer process works.

Registration

.no

The following conditions apply for domain registration under .no:

  • The applicant must be a private individual over the age of 18 residing in Norway, or an organisation or company registered with its own 9-digit organisation number in the Brønnøysund Register Centre. Sole traders, associations, and clubs may also register domain names, provided they have their own organisation number. (Registration in the Register of Legal Entities is free for these types of organisations.)

  • Certain types of organisations cannot register .no domains even if they have their own organisation number. This applies to, among others, sub-units, foreign entities, co-ownership associations under property law, and organisations of the type "Other legal entity".   • A limit of 100 domain names per holder directly under .no applies for organisations, and 5 domains directly under .no for private individuals, as well as 5 domain names under each of the geographic subdomains (.oslo.no, .bergen.no, etc.)

.priv.no

For domain registration under the subdomain .priv.no, the requirements are that you are:

  1. Over the age of 18

  2. Residing in Norway

  3. Registered in the National Population Register with a national identity number

⚠️ To register a .no or .priv.no domain as a private individual, you need a PID number, which is used in place of an organisation number. You can obtain a PID number by visiting Norid's website here:

Transfer

To transfer a .no domain, there are two important things to have in order:

  1. The AUTH-INFO code for the domain, also known as the AUTH-ID, auth code, transfer code, or EPP code.

  2. That the domain holder's contact information in WHOIS is up to date and correct.

When you order a transfer of a .no domain to us, we will request the AUTH-INFO code via the domain holder's contact information in WHOIS. If this is not in order, we will not be able to initiate the transfer.

Once the AUTH-INFO code has been provided, the transfer will begin. The transfer itself does not take long, but if you have ordered DNS services with us it can take up to 24 hours before the change is visible across the internet.
