Overview
If your web hosting plan supports multiple domains, it is possible to add them to the plan so that multiple domains can point to the same or different websites on the same web hosting.
This guide shows you how to add a domain on your account to an existing web hosting plan.
Important information
⚠️ You must have an active web hosting plan that supports more than one domain to be able to do this. This is only supported by Website Standard or above. Website Light does NOT support more than one domain.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you:
Are logged in to the customer area
Have more than one domain linked to your account
Have a web hosting plan that supports multiple domains
Step 1: Go to your web hosting plan
In the customer area, click View details under your web hosting plan.
The system will open the service overview.
Step 2: Select the domain you want to add to the web hosting
Find Domains under the service overview, and select the domain you want to add from the dropdown menu
Click Add domain
The domain will now be added to the list of domains that can be used with the web hosting:
Step 3: Add the domain to the web hosting addresses
For the new domain to point to the correct folder or subfolder on your web hosting, you need to add it under the web hosting addresses.
Click Manage Virtualhosts:
The system opens the overview of web hosting addresses.
Under Add new virtual host:
3. Enter the URL that the new domain should use (we recommend adding a virtual host for both the root domain and the www subdomain so that all visitors reach the correct place regardless of whether they type "www" before the domain name or not).
4. Select which folder ("Document root") the domain should point to. In this example, we are pointing the domain to a subfolder of the default public_html called another_sandwich.
5. Click Add Virtualhost
The web hosting is now configured to respond for the new domain and direct visitors to the specific folder under public_html:
Step 4: Check the domain's DNS
For the domain to point to the correct web server and display the correct page, you need to check that the DNS records for the domain are pointing to the correct IP address.
Click DNS Manager:
The system will open the DNS zone for the primary domain that the web hosting plan is associated with. To view the DNS zone for the new domain you added, click DNS zones:
Click the edit icon next to the domain you added:
Check that the records for the root (@) and the www subdomain are pointing to your web hosting plan's IP address
⚠️ The IP address for your web hosting plan can be found on the plan's service overview page.
When the records are correct, the web hosting will begin responding for the new domain in DNS within 1–2 hours.
Summary
You have now learned how to add multiple domains on your account to a web hosting plan.
